InkLove #6 All About Brittany Hicks!

April 16, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

Since I started this project last month I have seen some gorgeous work done by some incredibly talented artists.  It has been amazing getting to know all these extraordinary people, each with their own unique stories.  Brittany and I have a bunch in common, we both love the same types of music, we LOVE spooky things and Halloween and most of all we think tattoos are beautiful, especially ones that are done well! So without further ado- the longest InkLove Blog to date:

Introducing Brittany Hicks!

Brittany has a TON of tattoos. It doesn’t take long to figure that out about her!
Her electric blue streaked hair matches her personality for sure.
Brittany is a kindred spirit, her story has had plenty of bumps in the road like me and anyone else. She has been through some tough times, yet she has come out clean on the other side. I can empathize with many of her stories, as they remind me of my youth. I know Brittany has a bright and happy future awaiting her, and she is on the right road to get there <3

We will start with my favorite- The ‘Mercula’

Although there are many reasons and meanings behind getting a spiderweb tattoo on the elbow; Brittany wears this simply because she likes it, and a spider web ‘just made sense’ placed there.

How adorable is this Franken-cupcake?  Brittany has two cupcakes to symbolize her sisters

Fun little rag-doll guy. He kind of reminds me of the KoRn ragdoll from the ‘Issues’ album.

This Celtic knot is special because Brittany and her mother have matching ones. Same placement-same day. <3

Joey did a great job on this skull/halloween themed half sleeve. I love the purple swirls and the bats used as filler behind the bigger pieces.

Of course, one of my favorite tattoos is her Fiend Skull, signifying her love for The Misfits. She says her favorite song is London Dungeon.

It wouldn't be an InkLove blog without a piece of artwork from Morristown’s own Amanda Styles. I love this Geisha girl with sugar skull makeup so much!

The Hibiscus flower below the Geisha girl is a beautifully done cover up by Amanda as well.

This Coy fish really compliments the Geisha girl, and I love the placement, using the curve in her arm.

This one really took me back to my younger years! I I love the creative embellishment of adding a hibiscus to the A Perfect Circle logo. Amanda also did the fish scales on the bottom of her arm, which was a cover up.  I gotta say, I continue to be impressed with Amanda’s cover up work.

The Koi fish underneath is swimming around the Konji symbol for hate in a lotus flower.

I love this view of both her arms, you can really see how all the art comes together. The daisies on the side of the fish scales are by Joey Ellison, who is credited for many of her tattoos.
Below her piercings on her neck, you will see the Eye Of Horus, which is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health. Brittany is really into Egyptian culture and loves the symmetry in the artwork.

Below the Eye of Horus, is a Scarab, which were popular amulets in ancient Egypt. This piece was done in Gatlinbug, but Brittany cannot recall the shop name or artist (I would be lying if I said I remember all mine, too!)

These  traditional stars were some of the first tattoos Brittany got, there is that love of symmetry again!

This finger tattoo started off as a skull, but the more Brittany looks at it the more it reminds her of a Pac-Man ghost, which makes us love it even more! :D

Holy dermal piercings, Batman! I love how all of these come together. The butterfly looks plainful, but Brittany is a trooper. In between the butterfly you can see three Konji symbols meaning love, defiance and obscene.

The lyrics on Brittany’s ribcage are from Mudvayne’s song Skyring.
It says-“This puzzles dead inside, missing pieces, growing eyes”

Any fans of Mickey Mouse out there? Here is a new spin on everyone’s favorite mouse. I love how creative this is, Brittany loves old school cartoons. When you mix it with her personality, you get a badass cowboy undead Mickey!

Sparrows are symbolic of always searching, which is a great way to look at life, in my opinion. You never what is coming next!

I always give people massive credit for having foot tattoos, because they are known for being super painful. I can’t even begin to imagine what this amazing pelvic piece must have felt like-Hats off to you, Brittany!

I can’t say enough how in love I am with this undead/sugar skull version of Marilyn Monroe! So awesome!

Brittany is super close to her mother (which is partly why they have matching tattoos!) her mom loves owls and to Brittany they are the prettiest birds.

So I may not be the biggest fan of spiders in real life, but when you put a little bow on it and make it a cute tattoo, turns out I’m OK :)

So there you have it-the longest InkLove blog to date! All of these beautiful pieces attribute to one unique and special young lady.
I shared with her my story about quitting smoking and how beneficial that as been in my life; I guess the story resonated with her and she and her mother are on day four of no cigarettes! I am so proud of them, keep up the good work ladies!
